Have you had your hearing tested lately?Over 28 million people in the United States suffer from hearing loss, yet only about five million of these individuals are diagnosed and treated. Hearing loss is the most common birth defect and one of the most common chronic conditions. The prevalence of hearing loss rises sharply with age, affecting approximately 40% of all people at age 65 and 50% at age 75. Left untreated, hearing loss has been linked to clinical depression, and a host of physical, cognitive, behavioral and social health problems. Modern treatment options (medical or surgical intervention and amplification technology) have been proven to be highly effective in comparison to options available only a few years ago.
The Otogram is the first and only automated and self-administered comprehensive diagnostic hearing testing equipment that does not require a sound booth. The Otogram guides a patient through the following diagnostic hearing tests in approximately 20 minutes: comprehensive audiogram which includes pure-tone air and bone conduction with masking, speech reception threshold and speech discrimination, tympanometry, acoustic reflex, and otoacoustic emission (OAE). The test can be conducted in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Portugese, Russian, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Italian. Upon completion of the test, the patient’s results are printed as a computer-generated report. Dr. Schneiderman diagnoses and treats patients with hearing loss on a daily basis at his practice located in Bridgewater. |
